Hands On Lab
Disk-based Backup with Data-Deduplication and Replication
Tuesday 28th October | 15:30 | Room: Harmony C1
The objective of this lab is to get a basic introduction into Quantum´s DXi-Series, deduplicated-enabled disk and remote replication solutions.
During the lab students will access the central backup solution that was prepared and set up in the demo rack via remote desktop connections. The solution consists of Symantec NetBackup, a DXi7500, a Scalar i500.
Students will learn how to configure a partitioned disk-backup system and when to use the NAS share and VTL options. For the VTL option they will create virtual tape drives and tapes. We will explore the policy-based data-deduplication options of the system: adaptive vs. post processing vs. native VTL. As the right sizing of a deduplication solution is not trivial, you will learn about the most important influences on the size of deduplicated data sets. Finally you will get a basic introduction into the remote replication features of the DXi and you can monitor the performance and health characteristics of deduplicated backups.
